The Royal Oaks Eagle camera is mounted approximately 190’ up a Douglas Fir tree at Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver, WA.
In 2023/2024 there was a discussion with Gordon Kiyokawa the Golf Course Superintendent who asked about putting a camera in a tree where there were known Bald Eagles each year. This started some discussions and planning how it could be done.
Some email discussions took place with the team at Big Bear Valley who have an extremely popular camera to get more specific details of their setup. Their camera is remote and charges a battery pack. Luckily we have power very near the base of the trees where the nest is located.
In fall of 2025 the hardware was ordered and configured and in early 2026 a Axis 5565 camera was mounted to a tree adjacent to the nest by an arborist while the eagles were not present. At the base of the tree there is a wireless radio that communicates with another radio at a snack bar (ironically named “The Eaglesnest”) about 500’ away. Since the club already has it’s network extended to the snackbar once it was plugged in we were live.
Some additional software had to be installed on the camera itself to support the direct connection to YouTube for the live streaming. This has turned out to be a very popular site that is viewed by our members and others that have heard about both near and far.
A big thanks goes out to all of the viewers and those that were involved in making this happen.
